Entertainment Big on the Environment
The Entertainment Industry has been getting big on climate change awareness since Al Gore released his documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" in 2006. Pumping out a long list of environmentally friendly productions, its TV shows, films, and celebrities has been treated to an unexpected series of honorary awards and prizes. Gore is now the newly-minted Nobel peace prize winner, and has since featured on 30 Rock as a guest star, and co-organized the international Live Earth concerts. Now, the Environmental Media Association is crowning him with its own Outstanding Achievement Award. Also sharing in his glory will be Kevin wall, the producer of Live Earth, who donated all of the massively successful concert`s proceeds to Gore's non-profit alliance for Climate Protection and similar international organizations.
The newly-released movie, Happy Feet, featuring singing and dancing penguins, was named as the best feature film in this cause, and awarded the title because of its "ecologically uplifting and informative message". The documentary series to win the same award in its own category was "Big Ideas for a Small Planet", airing on the Sundance channel. And the message has been clear in a range of TV episodes and film releases to have hit our screens recently. Other shows that have been recognized for their contribution to the dispersion of this message include My Name Is Earl, Numb3rs, Living With Ed, and Bindi the Jungle girl.
Also participating in their efforts are many celebrities and icons, such as sting`s wife, Trudie Styler, who was honored with an EMA lifetime Achievement Award in human rights and environmental causes, and fashion model Sienna Miller, who has been recognized for her efforts to raise global warming awareness. With numerous upcoming environment-related events, we are sure to see many more of our favorites encouraging the steps towards a better future
