Weeds Nominated for Screen Actors Guild Award

It seems that as years go by the distance between Washington and Hollywood is vastly growing. While the current administration is highly conservative, calling for good old American family values, the television shows and movies being produced in Hollywood are becoming more and more leftist and liberal. Weeds is one of these shows raising the flag of democracy and liberalism, not just because it portrays an abundance of marijuana smoking, something not likely to come out of this Whitehouse, but rather because the show positions a mirror in front of the American public forcing them, through irony and humor, to cope with the hypocrisy of American suburbia.

For those of you who have missed the first season, Nancy Botwin, portrayed by Mary-Louise Parker, is a young widow taking care of her two teenage sons and a childish brother-in-law. Financial problems force her to become a marijuana peddler. If this sounds dull, nothing could be further from the truth. This show is hilarious, unique and cutting edge and is not afraid to deal with real issues and taboos.

The show`s first season was Showtime`s highest rated television show in 2005. The show`s second season ended in October 30, 2006. Showtime announced that the show`s third season will premier during the summer of 2007. The show has been nominated recently for a Screen Actors Guild Award in the television categories of Actress in a Comedy Series for Mary-Louise Parker and Comedy Ensemble. The show was also nominated for four Golden Globes, but won none.
