Arnold Schwarzenegger Released from Hospital
Arnold Schwarzenegger, who made a dramatic switch from acting to politics, landed himself in hospital yet again. The governor of California fractured his right thighbone during a skiing trip and needed to undergo surgery to repair a fracture. Doctors in the 90-minute operation used screws and cables, in order to link together broken fragments of the bone. After spending about a week in hospital Schwarzenegger was released back to his home, although it is expected that he will need crutches for a while.
This is certainly not the first time that the 59-year-old has visited a hospital. Exactly a year ago ? in January 2006 ? Schwarzenegger cut his lip after his motorbike smashed into a car near his home in Los Angeles. He subsequently needed 15 stitches after that accident. Only a month before that, he underwent a heart check at the local hospital, after a bout with stomach flu led to a rapid heartbeat and other complications.
Shwarzenegger?s aids say that he will be on crutches when he attends the swearing-in ceremony for his second term as governor of California. The ceremony is actually an affair spread over several days, including a kick-off party, a luncheon, the actual swearing-in and a black-tie dinner as the finale. Schwarzenegger?s budget proposal on January 10th will come one day after his State of the State speech.
