Beatles Feature on Stamps? 37 Years Later

One of the most popular rock groups in musical history, The Beatles, will finally appear on postage stamps ? some 37 years after the group officially disbanded. The fact that the Royal Mail considers it necessary to release stamps with the group?s pictures, points to just how popular the foursome were and how their music still manages to move crowds so many years later. It was estimated that by 1985, the group had sold over 1-billion discs or tapes.

A series of six stamps will be offered from January 9th, featuring the group?s most recognizable album covers. These albums include ?Revolver?, released in 1966, ?Help!?, ?Sergeant Pepper?s Lonely Hearts Club Band? and an album that was released after the group disbanded in 1970, ?Let it Be?. The Beatles ? a group of four young men from Liverpool in the UK ? led the British Invasion of the music industry and became famous all over the globe during the 1960s.

Out of the four, two members of the band remain ? Ringo Starr and Sir Paul McCartney who enjoyed a successful music career after the group broke up. George Harrison died in 2001 and John Lennon was assassinated while leaving his apartment building in New York in 1980. Lennon?s music and memory is still kept alive by his widow, Yoko Ono who continues his peace legacy through awards and ceremonies.
