Oprah Believes in Radio
Just for that extra helping of Oprah most of us are craving at around 2:00 in the morning, the much discussed Media Queen is launching her new 24 hour radio station on XM satellite radio. Her first show is scheduled to feature spirituality guru Marianne Williamson, as well as frequent TV guests such as financial expert Jean Chatzky, magazine editor and Oprah`s friend Gayle King and home decor guru Nate Berkus.
Channel 156, also known as `Oprah and Friends`, will feature shows hosted by a long list of personalities, including a half-hour "reality radio" show with Oprah and King, which is billed as a no-holds-barred telephone conversation between the two women. King will host a separate show on current events and trends, including celebrity interviews. Many of the shows will be caller-focused, with both listeners and celebrities on the line.
The channel will focus on a variety of topics aimed primarily at women: current events, self improvement, health, nutrition, fitness and home improvement. In February, Winfrey signed a three-year, $55 million deal with XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. to launch her new radio channel, which joins her nationally syndicated television show and her O, The Oprah Magazine.
