Apple Presents the Costly Downloadable Movie
Since Apple started offering video over the internet, the company has sold 35 million clips - including music videos, classic TV shows and new installments of popular shows such as "Desperate Housewives" and "The Office." On Tuesday Apple announced that it will start selling full length movies as well, in cooperation with Disney, Pixar and Touchstone pictures. The movies will be available at Apple`s online music store iTunes.
As part of the company`s ongoing efforts to maintain its lead in the online download market, Apple is experimenting with new territory, but with prices that are widely seen as steep, to say the least. In an era when piracy must be addressed, a price incentive might just convince illegal downloaders to cease from their actions. Apple`s Chief Executive Steve Jobs said new releases would initially cost $12.99 if pre-ordered or bought during the first week available, adding that older titles would cost $9.99.
The digital media market has not been overlooked by Apple either, and an additional announcement has been made concerning numerous changes to the various iPod devices, including Nanos with a longer battery life and another one with the most capacity to date
