Paris Hilton Faces DUI Charges
According to Los Angeles Police Department, the entertainment star Paris Hilton was arrested and charged with driving under the influence on Thursday after driving erratically and failing a field sobriety test. A little after midnight, officers assigned to a driving-under-the-influence task force spotted Hilton driving erratically in Hollywood and pulled her over. Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Irv Isabella said that Hilton "exhibited the symptoms of intoxication". The 25-years-old Hilton, star of TV`s "The Simple Life," was asked to perform a field sobriety test, which she failed, and was arrested and charged with DUI.
The spokesman could not confirm whether Hilton was handcuffed, but he said it is standard procedure to handcuff people arrested on DUI charges. Hilton was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date. Hilton`s spokesman, Elliot Mintz, sister Nicky Hilton and Nicky`s boyfriend, actor Kevin Connolly of TV`s "Entourage," picked Paris up at the police station in Hollywood. Mintz confirmed the arrest and said police detected the minimum blood-alcohol level to warrant an arrest, the AP reported. The legal limit in California is 0.08 percent.
At the time of the arrest, Hilton was driving home from a charity event where she had one drink, Mintz told the AP. She had spent the day shooting a music video for her new album, "Paris". The driving under the influence symptoms were "probably the result of an empty stomach and working all day and being fatigued," Mintz told the AP.
