Jackie Chan Against Entertainment Magazine Pics

Jackie Chan and other entertainment stars have marched silently to Hong Kong`s government head office, in a protest against an entertainment gossip magazine that published a cover photo of a pop singer half naked backstage. The celebrities were wearing black T-shirts and handed over a petition that criticized the photos that were secretly taken of Hong Kong pop singer Gillian Chung, part of the popular female duo Twins. The entertainment stars urged the government to tighten laws regarding such publications.

The singer Chung was pictured adjusting her bra backstage after a concert in Malaysia`s Genting Highlands. It appeared on the cover of the latest issue of the entertainment magazine Easy Finder. These photos have sparked a major criticism. Government regulators have received a flood of complaints. Hong Kong`s Obscene Articles Tribunal has classified the entertainment magazine issue "indecent," which could lead to prosecution. Chan and fellow stars attended a TV special protesting the photos last Monday.

Hong Kong leader Donald Tsang spoke out against the photos: "I identify with society`s strong criticism of these tactics". Journalists, however, have opposed restrictions on their coverage as a threat to press freedom. Legal reforms propose banning secret surveillance by private parties, but the government is still considering the recommendations.
