New Twist to the Madonna Adoption Saga

Star gazers around the globe have been following the story of Madonna?s adoption of a Malawian baby with great interest. First there were rumors that the pop star diva was checking out adoption possibilities in this impoverished African state, but her publicists quickly quelled them. Instead, attention was diverted to the grassroots projects that Madonna was planning on creating in Malawi to help a country racked by AIDS and social problems.

The adoption theory exploded into the open again when a Malawian man confirmed that his one-year-old son would possibly be adopted by the star and her husband Guy Ritchie and taken to London. The child, whose mother had died of Malaria soon after his birth, was living in an orphanage and Madonna soon confirmed that she was in the process of adopting him. Last week, the child was flown to Heathrow and whisked away to join his new family ? Madonna, Ritchie and their two children.

A new twist to the story, however, reveals that the child, David Banda?s father has told reporters that he was not aware that the star would officially adopt the boy. He says that he was under the impression that David would move to London and be educated there but would return to his country of birth after he had grown up. The father claims that he was given papers to sign by Malawian authorities but that he wasn?t aware of what he was signing as he cannot read or write. This new angle adds fuel to the fire initially started by children?s rights activists who claim that Madonna took short cuts in the adoption process and that the child was better off in his land of birth with his natural father.
