Actress Jane Wyatt Dies

Famous U.S. actress, Jane Wyatt, best known for her appearance in the television series, ?Father Knows Best? died at the age of 96 in her home in California. Jane Wyatt was one of America?s best-loved actresses, having appeared in over 30 movies, television shows and plays over a period of nearly fifty years. Wyatt died in her sleep of natural causes and is survived by two sons and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Wyatt was born in 1910 and started acting on Broadway in her late teens. She went on to act in almost fifty plays before she was swooped up by Universal Pictures in 1934 and started a 30-year career as a movie star. Jane Wyatt was best know for her role in ?Father Knows Best? and became the first television star to win the prestigious Academy of Television, Arts and Science?s Emmy Award twice in a row.

Jane Wyatt also became famous in Trekkie circles for her role as Spock?s mother in a 1960 episode of Star Trek. She delighted her fans when she came back to play the same role in ?The Voyage Home?, a Star Trek movie made 26 years later. One black spot in Wyatt?s career was when the McCarthy government blacklisted her after it was ?revealed? that she had hosted a performance of the Bolshoi Ballet in the U.S. at the request of the former President Roosevelt.
