Cher Items Go Under the Hammer

A wide range of items belonging to pop star and film actress, Cher, has been sold in Los Angeles. The lot of over 700 items ? ranging from dresses to cars ? raised more than $3.5 million. This was double the amount that the auction was estimated to bring in and Cher is reported to be very pleased with the results. Cher will donate some of the proceeds to charity and some of the money will be used towards renovating her mansion in Malibu.

Some of the more interesting items to be snapped up by celebrity collectors included a rock and roll outfit designed by Bob Mackie. The buyer of the outfit, wife of singer and actor Bobby Sherman, Brigitte Poublon, paid twenty times more than the outfit was estimated before the auction began. Sherman appeared with Cher on the ?Sonny and Cher? show and this could be what prompted Poublon to pay $60,000 (instead of the pre-estimated $3000) for the outfit.

The most expensive item sold in the auction was undoubtedly a one-year-old black Bentley car, which went for $204,000. The sixty-year-old performer was keen to get rid of these items, as she wants to make a fresh start with her life and noted that most of the items had been kept in storage anyway. It makes sense that charity organizations will benefit from this sale, instead of the items gathering dust in Cher?s storerooms.
