Madonna Adopts a Baby from Malawi

Amidst a whirlwind tour to the impoverished areas of Africa, rumors were fueled that mega pop star, Madonna was looking to adopt a child from Malawi. Finally, representatives of a Malawian orphanage confirmed that the star indeed adopted a one-year-old boy and the child was flown to his new home in England early Tuesday.

Madonna, together with her husband, Guy Ritchie, spent more than a week touring orphanages and meeting with charity workers in a hope to learn more about the impoverished, AIDS-inflicted nation of Malawi which is home to close to a million orphans. Madonna hopes to highlight the plight of the orphans and has promised to donate at least $3-million to charities who support these desperate children. Madonna is following in the footsteps of other western stars, such as Angelina Jolie, who feel the need to do something for the underprivileged of the world through the development and support of grassroots projects and the improvement of education.

It had been suggested that Madonna and Guy Ritchie were at odds regarding the adoption of a baby from a Malawi orphanage. Both Ritchie?s mother and stepmother had adoption related issues that influenced his childhood and made him wary of the reasons why Madonna wants to take in a child in the first place. It was said that Ritchie was afraid that the only motivation behind adoptions made by stars is for the celebrity status involved and less about the well being of these unfortunate children. However, it seems that Madonna and her husband have reached an agreement on the issue as they welcomed their new addition into their sprawling English mansion.
