Police Wrap it Up
Not very often does eBay have the chance to enforce their policy never to sell human remains over the site, but finally it happened following an attempt on the part of a Lynn Sterling, who tried to sell an old human mummy on the popular internet auction site. eBay yanked it out, not before it received a $500 bid, and handed the case over to the police, who confiscated the mummy and handed it over to Clair County medical examiners who are trying to determine the origins of the remains.
Sterling told police she acquired the mummy from an old friend and sought an attorney`s permission prior to posting the mummified item. "It`s an anatomical, medical-use skeleton," she told the media. "I would never have put it on (eBay) if I thought it was anything other than an anatomical, medical thing." Police said they don`t expect to press charges against Sterling or the mummy`s unidentified owner.
Famous for hard to find and collectable merchandise, the online auction site eBay offers on a daily basis, millions of items available through auction-style and fixed-price trading.
