Meet the Flintstone
Ed Benedict, the legendary "Flintstones" animator has passed away, at the age of 94. The talented animator worked with MGM and additional studios prior to joining Bill Hanna, Joe Barbera and their TV animation studio in the late 1950`s. His simple yet sophisticated animation style were what gave life to his characters, giving them an extra helping of charm and personality.
Benedict deserves the well earned credit not only for designing Fred, Barney, Wilma and Betty. He was also in charge of the whole prehistoric setting in the "Flintstones" cartoon- the Stone Age houses and gadgets, including the characters` foot-powered cars, which in many minds was the next best thing after sliced bread, if only it was possible to drive a car like that.
"The Flintstones," one of the first cartoon series created for adults as well as children, debuted in 1960 and was an immediate hit. Forty-six years later, Fred and Barney remain squarely in the public consciousness as pitchmen for various products, including Flintstones` vitamins.
