Madonna Adopts?

Since Madonna arrived in Malawi, her visit there has been everything but low profile. Looking to adopt or just on a private work visit involving her project she funds for AIDS orphans? The public knows that the only way there will be a clear answer is if she finally releases a public statement or gets off the plane and goes home with a Malawian child. But the rumors have begun.

Yohama Banda, a Malawian father is claiming that his 1-year-old boy whose mother died a month after childbirth, has been adopted by the star. Malawian government officials said last week the pop star had planned to adopt a Malawian boy, however, they declined to comment on Banda`s claim that his son David had been adopted by the singer.

Madonna arrived in Malawi Oct. 4 to visit her Raising Malawi project, which is setting up an orphan care center to provide food, education and shelter for up to 4,000 children. It will have projects based on Kabbalah, Judaism`s mystical sect, which counts the 48-year-old singer among its devotees. She has visited the orphanage at least once during her visit. Its director, Rev. Thompson John Chipeta, has refused to speak to the media.
