Trekkie Heaven

It was Trekkie paradise at Christie`s Saturday auction where the top bid went to a model of the Starship Enterprise used in the pilot and titles sequences of `Star Trek`. The lucky buyer took it home for a mere $576,000. Fans and collectors from across the world joined forces to take part in the 40th anniversary auction that celebrated the franchise and to feed the auctioneers with a grand total of $7,107,040.

The extraordinary sale, which featured hundreds of never seen before official Star Trek items from the CBS Paramount Television studios, offered all Trekkies something they could take home, be it a model, a costume or a prop. Besides the Starship Enterprise, other top sellers from Saturday`s auction included a spacesuit belonging to the series` Dr. McCoy from the episode "The Tholian Web," which fetched $144,000 and a replica of Captain James T. Kirk`s chair on the bridge in the first Star Trek series.

With participation from Asia, Europe, Australia, the Americas, Africa and the Middle East, the sale was a truly global event, and was streamed live in its entirety on the History Channel website, and the website plans to re-play the auction next week.
