Theaters Keep Bush Alive
After releasing the controversial film "The passion of the Christ", Newmarket is keen on keeping the controversy level stable with their new fictional film "Death of a President", which tells the story of the political drama behind an investigation into Bush?s murder in October 2007. Although the film has been receiving good reviews at the different film festivals, many distributors are not participating in what they perceive as simply bad taste.
Two major chains, with a total of around 9,000 screens have pulled the plug on the movie, and Newmark`s spokesman has rushed to defend the film. "In certain cases, there has been a rush to judgment, the fact is the film is not about what people are suggesting it is about. It is a thoughtful film and a political thriller.? He believes that although only 100 theaters have signed on, the number will rise in the near future.
The film, which was directed by Gabriel Range, made its first appearance recently at Toronto International Film Festival to a barrage of media coverage. It won an award from critics and was acquired for U.S. distribution by Newmarket Films. It is scheduled to air on British television next week.
