Madonna?s New Children?s Book Not Doing Well


Things aren?t going very well for pop icon, Madonna, these days. Whenever she tries to do something good for humanity, the plan backfires and she is left reeling by the bad publicity. Initially, things were looking up for Madonna. Her marriage to film director, Guy Ritchie is stable and the two are enjoying family life with Madonna?s two children, Lourdes and Rocco. Madonna?s first children?s book, ?English Roses? was a smash hit and sold over 350,000 copies.

Basking in her newfound spirituality as a follower of the teachings of Jewish mystics, the Kabbalah, Madonna decided to do something worthwhile for mankind and embarked on a charity tour to Malawi where she visited orphanages and proposed recovery programs for many of them. While in Malawi, Madonna announced her intention to adopt an infant boy in the hope that she would serve as an example for others considering this move. Only, things started to go downhill from then on. Madonna was hauled through the mud by the press for removing the child from his homeland, since he had a father who was alive.

Despite huge attempts by the star to explain her original, philanthropic motives for adopting baby David and bringing him up in her family home in England, the press were ruthless. Her appearance on Oprah Winfrey?s show, as well as ?Dateline? may have produced positive feedback, but in the long run, the bad publicity clearly affected Madonna?s sequel to her book. The new children?s text, ?English Roses: Too Good to be True? has sold only 9000 copies since its release in October.
