A Peaceful Release for the Wii
The past week was full of mayhem, due to the release of the PlayStation 3 console, which was distributed to stores across the country in a limited edition. We were treated to endless videos plastered across the net showing the chaos- long lines with eager teens and we heard of masked robberies, muggings and even a shootout. People were camping outside stores for days because Sony had to meet a deadline, which resulted in less supply for the huge demand.
A few days later, Nintendo came along and released the equally anticipated "Wii". Here too, hardcore gamers camped outside big name stores like Best Buy, Wal-Mart and Fry`s, to ensure they got their Wii when it went on sale at 12am on Sunday. Luckily, the Wii`s release went relatively smoothly, with no major injuries reported.
The hype around the console is dying down just a bit, ever since the release, since rumors of minor problems with the console are starting to surface. Apparently there are issues with the firmware and the motion-sensing controller, and as if that is not enough, there is also talk about lax connectivity online via a wireless router. The important thing is, no one was trampled waiting for the console, take that Sony!
