Borat Will Not Play in Home Country

People that followed recent developments regarding the new film "Borat" are probably not surprised with Kazakhstan`s foreign minister`s announcement that the movie will not be shown in his country. Borat is a comedy character conceived and played by Sacha Baron Cohen, and which portray the former Soviet Union and Kazakhstan in an un-favoring light. The country of Kazakhstan already expressed its objection to Cohen`s TV show, where Borat appears periodically.

Kazakhstan is trying to promote it self as a modern country with a high level of academic knowledge, but most people know the country only through Cohen`s Borat. The character does not reflect the real Kazakhstan, and the country`s foreign minister is furious about it. The new film titled "Borat" aired in the United States, and is set of international distribution. Kazakhstan`s foreign minister`s remark about the film is less than surprising.

The minister said, when asked about his reaction to parts of the film, that he did not find the film funny at all. The Borat character uses a harsh, racist and anti-Semitic language during the film in order to put the American audience in an ironic situation. The minister said that he hopes that people understand that Borat has nothing to do with the country of Kazakhstan and its citizens. The film opens in theaters in Germany, and the minister answered the German press in light of the movie premiere.
