Move over Da Vinci the X-Men are Back

The Da Vinci Code may have faced pretty terrible reviews, but this did not keep entertainment fans from rushing to the box office to see this long awaited flick. Although the movie did relatively well during its first weeks at the box office, there was no contest when "X-Men: The Last Stand" was released. This third and final movie in the X-Men trilogy has rocked the box office bringing in approximately $107 million over the first weekend.

This astounding three-day earnings has made "X-Men: The Last Stand" the fourth-highest all time opening in north American box office history. For any of you entertainment buffs who have seen the first two movies, this should not come as a surprise to you. The film is action packed, fun to watch and best of all, the ending we have all been waiting for. Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations stated that "people had such a huge awareness of the movie that it just translated into these huge numbers".

The movie itself benefited from people who had seen the first X-Men films in addition to terrific marketing, that only the North American entertainment industry can produce, and favorable reviews. "X-Men: The Last Stand" placed fourth in the history of entertainment behind "Spider-Man", "Star Wars: Episode III- Revenge of the Sith" and "Shrek 2", each of which made $115 million, $108.4 million and $108 million respectively during their opening weekends.
