More Court Dates Ahead for Rap Mogul
It seems that rap artists are constantly being asked to show up in court for one reason or another. Little Kim recently got pinned on aiding with a crime, and thus got a sentence to spend an entire year in prison. It is not surprising that rap mogul Suge Knight is a little wary of attending court hearings next month. Suge Knight could lose his infamous Death Row Records label, formally home to murdered rap legend 2Pac, if he fails to attend a court hearing next month.
The rap mogul has been ordered to attend a hearing to discuss his assets, after losing a $107 million court battle to Lydia Harris, who claims she helped him start the label. Lydia and her jailed drug dealer ex-husband Michael claim half of the settlement as part of their divorce, and lawyers have asked a judge to put Death Row into receivership. Michael, who is serving a 28 year prison sentence in California, says he invested over a million dollars to help kick-start the label, a claim which Suge denies.
Suge has failed to attend three financial examinations relating to the case, and failed to show to yesterday?s hearing, which has led the Harrises? attorney, Steve Goldberg, to say: "Enough is enough. It is time for a receiver and an order for contempt. There are rules of court that should be obeyed and Mr. Knight is making a mockery of it."
Suge?s lawyer Dermot Givens has promised the judge his client would attend the next hearing in April.
