Showtime Boxing and Viewpoint Creative Join Forces
Championship Boxing on Showtime is celebrating it`s 20th Anniversary. Viewpoint Creative and Showtime have decided to join forces, and Viewpoint has completed final editorial, design and composite on a :60 second spot celebrating this event. The piece features some of the greatest moments in the history of the sport with a who?s who of boxing superstars including Mike Tyson, Felix Trinidad, Marvin Hagler, Evander Holyfield, Sugar Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns, and many more.
Mark Koehne, Viewpoint Creative composite artist continues, `Avoiding overwhelming the great boxing footage with heavy-handed grapics, we chose to accent and seamlessly blend the footage in and out of the graphics in short bursts. Before and after each name montage, we rotoscoped the boxers out of their respective scenes to tie them into each graphic section. The type treatment of the boxers names is based on a journey through time, going back in infinite space and thrusting forward to hit as the V.O. tagged each name.`
The design was built to create an epic, theatrical look that captures the historical power of the fight footage while maintaining an edgy, contemporary feel consistent with the Showtime brand. Says Viewpoint Creative designer, Matt Silbert, `The idea is based around a shattering glass logo which conveys the incredible power and impact of a fighter?s punch and the damage it causes. The explosion of glass makes an arresting way to open the piece with the fragmented, deconstructed logo threading throughout ? mixing with footage and type ? finally reconstructing back together at the end. Then, for a big payoff: exploding one more time.`
