Three 6 Mafia Takes Home Oscar
Three 6 Mafia, a Memphis rap group, took home the award for Best Original Song at the 78th Annual Academy Awards. The group performed their original song `It`s Hard Out Here For A Pimp` with songstress and actress Taraji Henson. The performance took place right before the group won their Oscar Academy Award for Best Original Song, which was featured in the movie `Hustle and Flow`. The film was written by Memphis native Craig Brewer and directed by John Singleton. The song `It`s Hard Out Here For A Pimp` was written by Paul `DJ Paul` Beauregard and Jordon `Juicy J` Houston of Three Six Mafia, along with Cedric `Frayser Boy` Coleman.
This was the first ever Academy Awards performance for any rapper which a previous offer to perform was given to Eminem, but was denied in 2003. Three Six Mafia`s latest album, Most Known Unknown, peaked the Billboard Top 100 R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart at #1 and currently holds the #16 spot and also holds #6 on the Top Rap Albums charts. Both will most likely soar after their award winning performance at the Oscars.
Three 6 Mafia fellow nominees for Best Original Song included `Travel Through` for TransAmerica which was written by country singer, actress and songwriter Dolly Parton and also `In The Deep` for the movie Crash written by Kathleen `Bird` York and Michael Becker.
