Bahamian Music`s Culture
Jay Michaels, international media personality and the Entertainment Consultant for the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, wants to bring the music of the Bahamas to the rest of the world. He and Fred Ferguson are working on expanding the horizons of some very talented Bahamian musicians and artists. Jay has helped get Bahamian music known through the media, but feels he can do more.
In a recent interview Jay Michaels said it was a bit disheartening that so many of the traditional media outlets in the Bahamas have given their airtime to formats that could be heard in Philadelphia, New York, Boston or any major city and do not feature enough of the traditional sounds of the Bahamas. Jay Michaels says `when a listener or viewer experiences the Island rhythms it can be the most therapeutic experience that they could imagine, whether stressed-out at the office, caught up in traffic or when they just want to escape between their visits to the Bahamas!`
It seems that the passion that Michaels has shared for the Islands has been recognized by people like Ferguson and that his how this alliance was formed. The plan is, through the newly formed Bahamas Information Network, is to give true Bahamian artists an outlet for their music to be seen and heard. Although, in the planning stages both of these talented individuals promise to bring back the `cultural flavor` of the Islands and to educate the world on the unique music contribution that these people can make.
