A War Time Journal Ready for Readers

Alex`s Diary: 1942-45 has recently been published by Biblio Books. This is a war-time journal written by Alexander Meijer. When he was 16, he went into hiding with his family as it quickly became clear that the Nazi rulers of the Netherlands were planning to murder the country`s Jews. This is his story.

For two years and eight months Alex, his parents, and two sisters, were hidden by the Wenning family, courageous Dutch Christians, in their remote farm house in the Groningen province. Alex`s Diary: 1942-45 is this young man`s record of the common events of family life, traditional Jewish observances maintained under stressful conditions, the progress of the war based on BBC shortwave broadcasts and underground newspapers. Occasionally there is a thoughtful passage, perhaps an intimation of his future career as a psychiatrist.

Lavishly illustrated with photographs of the era, and translated into English by his wife Donya, Alex`s Diary: 1942-45 is available from Amazon, Biblio Books, and other booksellers. Alex`s Diary: 1942-45 is a remarkable human document of a Jewish youth and his family during the Second World War. Unlike most such records, it has a `happy ending`. The Meijer family survived the war unharmed, but with several close calls, until liberation in May 1945.
