Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man`s Chest gets $132 million
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man`s Chest made a record of $132 million in the first three days in theaters. The previous record holder was 2002`s "Spider-Man," which took in $114.8 million in its first weekend. The first movie of the trilogy, "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl", took in only $46.6 million in the opening weekend in 2003, thus nearly three times beaten by the new film.
The film producer Jerry Bruckheimer did not expect such a success, although the predictions of the entertainment experts were extremely high. "When people in the industry predicted these high numbers, I thought they were just trying to be mean. So no matter how good we did, if we did $100 million, we`d be failures," said Bruckheimer. "I didn`t think we`d get near these numbers."
With the recent situation in the entertainment world, it seems that the only movie that will be able to surpass "Pirates`" success will be the third movie in the trilogy, which is supposed to get to theaters next year.
