Why We Love Awards Shows
Why is it that American`s are so drawn into award shows? Is it because Hollywood and the entertainment industry is so ground into them that they must find out who the top winners are? Or is it more because, like most other nations, Americans like to see who`s wearing what and, most importantly, who can pull off the newest fashion trends. In a recent survey conducted by Directive Analytics, just prior to the Golden Globe Awards, one half of Americans anticipated watching the upcoming entertainment awards shows and another 23% don?t plan to watch, but follow the results. Its not just Americans affinity for films or keeping up to date on critically acclaimed movies that draws them in, star gazing and viewing the red carpet fashions are top draws as well.
In fact, 55% tune-in to get a celebrity fix and/or cheer for their favorite stars and movies while 33% are in it to check out the stars? fashions. Much of the success hinges on the host, 50% consider the host to be the most important element in the entertainment value of these shows. Though red carpet interviews are interesting, they are not strongly related to the success or failure of the show itself.
As for the most popular entertainment awards show overall, the Academy Awards win hands down among interested Americans, with more than 56% indicating that it is their favorite. Nearly one-quarter of these Americans, 23% to be exact, rate the Academy Awards as being ?Must See TV,? while an additional 36% will watch if at all possible. Further, more than four-in-ten feel that the Academy Awards is the most entertaining awards show and more than one-third cite the Academy Awards as the awards show that best reflects their taste in movies.
