Malcolm DeMille Auctions `The Mentor` for ALS Association



Malcolm DeMille, sports sculptor and jeweler, has placed `The Mentor` his original bronze Arnold Palmer sculpture, up for auction on eBay. Fifty percent, or the final sale price earmarked to the ALS Association, Greater Los Angeles Area Chapter (ALSALA) will go to the foundation. `The Mentor` bronze is one of three in existence, and was first commissioned by Wal-Mart for the First Tee at Pebble Beach golf tounament in 2004.

The auction ends Sunday, February 19th, 2006, at 8:00 p.m. PST, and can be `The Mentor` sculptural trophy was first designed for Wal-Mart`s First Tee Open at Pebble Beach in 2004, and approved by Mr. Palmer himself. Arnie is shown teaching youngsters in the fine art of putting. The figures of Palmer and the youngsters measure 9" high (or 1/8 scale), and are fitted onto a 13" diameter by 5" high wood and marble base. The overall height is just above 16 inches.

Malcolm DeMille is golf`s prize maker, the creator of those striking trophies seen so often on the 18th green. Prominent tournaments in which Mr. DeMille?s championship sculptures are awarded include the Nissan Los Angeles Open, the Buick Invitational, the John Deere Classic and Battle at the Bridges. His money clips and jewelry are staples at the U.S. Open, the PGA Championship, the Senior PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup. Only three `Mentor` sculptures exist today. One was awarded to Hale Irwin upon winning the 2005 First Tee Open, another to Craig Stadler after his 2004 tournament victory. The piece in the auction is the third.
