Gay Ingram`s New Release - `Troubled Times`

It`s 1856 and the Civil War in the U.S. is about to begin. George Morgan and a group of his friends migrate from Kentucky to the free state of Indiana. There they hope to find a place where they can live free from persecution. They eventually create their own community in the wilderness, causing each man to search his heart to discover what price he`s willing to pay to be free.

Scattered throughout the narrative are compelling glimpses into historical events that help determine the future of each person. The author pulls no punches in describing the plight of America`s free blacks in that era. Also evident is the honest determination of her characters to capture this country`s promise of freedom for all.

The author spins a compelling story about free blacks living in Kentucky in 1856. Overwhelmed by the terror tactics of their white neighbors, the four families seek a new life in the recently declared free state of Indiana. Only after difficult travel through uncharted territory, a child washed overboard by a raging river and a frightening encounter with a slave catcher obsessed with George`s wife, Mirabelle, does the company arrive at their piece of wilderness. Discovery of a saltpeter mine helps fund George`s dream especially when the country erupts in Civil war.
