US Pop Star, Pink, Calls for Australian Wool Boycott

In a video clip that she made for the organization, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), US pop star, Pink, has condemned the Australian government for allowing the cruel removal of flesh from lamb?s rear ends, called mulesing. Pink said that the practice was sadistic, especially as it was not performed by anesthetic. The star called for consumers to boycott wool products that originated from Australia.

In response, the Australian government issued a statement that justified the practice of mulesing and said that if it was not done to lambs, they would be prone to maggot infestations and would probably die from infection. The statement went on to question the star?s knowledge on the subject: ?Pink is entitled to her views but at the end of the day would Australia`s farmers take advice from Pink?" The star continues to insist that there exist more human ways of dealing with the maggot problem, other than mulesing.

Pink is not the only celebrity who has taken up the cause on behalf of animals. Other famous PETA spokespeople include Pamela Anderson and Sadie Frost from the acting industry, as well as Simon Cowell and the singer, Moby. Recently, Pink wrote a letter to Prince William to scold him for taking part in hunting sports. She allegedly turned down his invitation to perform at his birthday party due to his love of hunting.
