James Brown, The Godfather of Funk Dies at 73


The legendary musician James Brown died Monday Morning, after his body failed to deal with the serious pneumonia he inflicted. He was 73-years-old. Brown was admitted in a hospital on Sunday and died at 1:45 Am Monday. Together with such legendary musicians such as Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan, Brown, who was born in 1933, is considered one of the most influential people in music in the past 50 years. Brown is considered the godfather of funk and his energetic concerts and unique dance technique became his trademark.

Brown`s musical career began in the early 50s with the hit "Please, Please, Please". Since then he has generated a multitude of hits including "Say It Loud", "I Feel Good", "Sex Machine", "I`m Black and I`m Proud" and many more. In 1992 he was awarded a Grammy for his lifetime achievements but this wasn`t his first, in 1965 he won a Grammy for "Papa`s Got a Brand New Bag" and in 1987 he received one for "Living in America", which accompanied the movie Rocky. He was inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, together with Elvis Presley and some other founding fathers.

Brown, who enjoyed many glamorous days, also had some low points. He spent over 2 years in a South Carolina prison for assault. He was released in 1991 and said he intends to start a new chapter in his life. Lately he married his forth wife Tommie Rae Hynie, which was one of his supporting singers. The two have a child named James Jr.
