?Dave Clark Five? Singer Dies
In the 1960s, when the Beatles were just entering the global music market, another British group spearheaded what was to become known as the ?British Invasion?. These were the years when popular English groups were breaking away from the popularity of their own country and seeking to conquer the American market. A group known as ?The Dave Clark Five?, alongside the Beatles, took the United States by storm and enjoyed incredible popularity during the magical decade.
One of the singers of ?The Dave Clark Five?, Dennis Payton died last week at the age of 63, after suffering for some time from an illness. He is survived by his partner of 16 years, two sons from a previous relationship and two stepsons. Payton was a talented musician who played a number of instruments, including the saxophone, harmonica and guitar. In addition, he lent back up vocals to the rock and roll group.
?The Dave Clark Five? sold over 100 million records and were famous for hits such as ?Over and Over? and ?Glad all Over?. A few weeks ago, the band was nominated to be included in the 2007 American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. ?The Dave Clark Five? eventually broke up in the 1970s but had a strong core group of fans. One of the band?s founding members said of Payton, ?He had an amazing philosophy on life and will be greatly missed by me and all who knew him?.
