French Actor Jailed for Insulting Police Officer
The entertainment industry could not have been more disgusted when Mel Gibson let out a tirade of anti-Semitic insults when he was stopped by a police officer last summer. When Seinfeld star, Michael Richards, used the N word several times during a comedy act last month, the industry was even more shocked. However, it seems that racial insults are not the forte of only American actors. French actor, Sami Naceri, has been sentenced to jail time for insulting a black police officer.
Naceri, 44, best known for his roles in the ?Taxi? film series, was stopped by police in Paris after admitting that he mixed alcohol and medicine. In a fit of rage, he verbally insulted a black police officer and charges were pressed. Naceri later apologized for his conduct and pleaded guilty to all charges against him. However, when sentence was passed last week, he did not appear in court. The judge sentenced the actor to six months in prison and a fine of 8000 Euros.
This is not the first time that Naceri has experienced a brush with the law. Several times in the past, he has being convicted for assault, drunk driving, speeding and possessing drugs. He will stand trial next week again ? this time for attacking a man in a Paris restaurant. Last week, Naceri received a (joint) best actor award at the Cannes Film Festival.
