Legal fight over sale of rare concert footage
The fight over artistic copyrights continues, even if the bands that are in the center of the legal feud no longer do. The Doors and Led Zeppelin, and other bands and musicians such as Santana and the Grateful Dead are suing Wolfgang`s Vault. They claim the San Francisco Bay Area memorabilia seller has no right to deal.
The seller started its business three years ago on the Internet. About a month ago, it started streaming rare concert moments filmed by the site operators. Intellectual property laws are being stated in the plaintiffs` lawsuit. Previous attempts to ask Graham to cease from doing so were not successful. The lawsuit is for a total of $6 million. The profits from selling the concert videos and memorabilia do not belong to the site, nor did it ever receive authorization to deal them.
The state of doors lead singer Jim Morrison and the bands surviving members believe they deserve royalties from any sales and dealings of their music. "That`s how artists make money, and it`s OK for artists to make money and they should make money when people are selling their name and their image," keyboardist Manzarek said.
