Nicole Richie Arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol

Actress and socialite, Nicole Richie, was arrested early last week for driving under the influence of alcohol. She was also tested for drugs and the results are yet to be determined. Richie, daughter of the famous singer, Lionel Richie, is the star of the television show, ?The Simple Life?, together with hotel heiress, Paris Hilton.

On early Monday, California?s 911 service received reports that a black Mercedes utility vehicle was driving in the wrong direction on the freeway. Upon investigation, California Highway Patrol officials found Richie?s car in the car pool lane of the highway. Before her arrest, officers say that Richie admitted that she had been smoking marijuana and had taken a pain-relief prescription drug, Vicodin as well. Richie was booked into Glendale where she was tested for drugs and released on $15,000 bail the next day.

Nicole Richie?s publicist did not return any calls regarding the actress?s arrest. The 25-year old is known to be a heavy party-goer and has been in the news lately regarding her on-off relationship with another socialite, Paris Hilton. The two announced that their friendship was over several months ago, but were later seen together at a restaurant, putting a seal on rumors that their joint show would be running another season next year. It remains to be seen how this new incident will affect Richie?s career.
