Actresses Disgusted by Fashion Industry?s ?Size Zero? Trend
In an industry where a woman?s body is sometimes her only ticket into the world of glamour, it is refreshing to note that not all stars feel that way. In two separate interviews, recently, actresses have come out strongly against the ?size zero? trend that has gripped the fashion industry, causing the ?ideal image? to become thinner and thinner with each passing year.
In an interview given to BBC, ?Titanic? actress, Kate Winslet, expressed her disgust for the fact that the fashion and entertainment industries put so much emphasis on the tiny size of a woman?s body. She noted that she was terrified of the effect this message might have on her six year old daughter, Mia and, for the time being, refuses to allow magazines in her house for fear of the negative images portrayed. Winslet noted that strong actresses such as Meryl Streep and Emma Thompson should be admired for their ability to get their talents across through their faces and not their bodies.
Another actress who recently had her say on the matter was Billie Piper, former star of ?Doctor Who?. The twenty-four year old star expressed her fears, which were similar along the lines to those expressed by Winslet. Piper, too, worried that ?size-zero? celebrities such as Victoria Beckham could send the wrong messages to her 13-year-old sister and an entire generation of teen wanna-bes who emulated these women.
