Madonna in the News Again over Fur Coat Scandal
The media has blasted pop star Madonna yet again. While she is facing a tough battle regarding the adoption of her son from Malawi, this time the singer has been criticized for ignoring cruelty to animals. Madonna was photographed wearing a coat made out of the fur of chinchillas as she left a restaurant in London with her husband, Guy Ritchie. Madonna?s spokesman was not available to comment on the latest scandal.
Animal rights groups, including PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) were enraged with Madonna for going against a fashion trend of wearing faux-furs instead of the real thing. These groups claim that many socialites and pop stars have changed their entire attitude about real furs after they watched videos showing how animals were bred and tortured for their furs. PETA urged Madonna to watch a video to see how shy, intelligent animals such as chinchillas are electrocuted and skinned alive for their furs.
The fur scandal might have negative repercussions on a new line of clothing that Madonna is designing for the fashion chain, H&M. The line is due to be released in March and will reflect the star?s own classic-meets-unique style. While H&M claims that its clothing does not contain real fur and only leather from animals that were bred for their meat, it remains to be seen how they will deal with this negative exposure.
