Stones Tour is on a Roll
One of the most influential and longest running musical bands in industry, the Rolling Stones, have broken the record for having the top-grossing tour in history. While U2 briefly held this title with their Vertigo tour, the Rolling Stones have outdone them after topping nearly $4.5 million in revenue and playing to more than 3.5 million people around the world. The good news is that the tour will most likely stretch into 2007 and revenue is expected to reach more than $500-million.
The Rolling Stones, an English rock band, have been in the music industry since the time of the Beatles. Current band members are Charlie Watts, Ron Wood, Keith Richards and ? probably the most recognized member ? Mick Jagger. The group has continued to perform for decades ? with their most famous tour, prior to the present one, being their 1994-1995 Voodoo Lounge Tour. That tour brought in $320-million in revenue ? a number not topped until U2 began their 2005-2006 Vertigo Tour.
The Stones? present tour, A Bigger Bang, has brought their show to 110 locations around the world. The climax of the show was certainly their performance in Rio de Janeiro at Copacabana Beach that drew a staggering two million music lovers in February of 2006. Despite the fact that band members are over 60 years in age, it seems there is no stopping their energy and ability to bring in a crowd. The Stones are definitely on a roll!
