Entertainment TV Show Will Look For Stars for Grease
You`re the One That We Want, a new US TV entertainment show is about to imitate the BBC show "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?" Members of the public will compete for parts in the musical Grease, in particularly for the lead parts of Danny and Sandy. Among the judges will be Jim Jacobs, the creator of "Grease" - although a public vote will eventually decide the winner of the entertainment competition show.
The revival of the musical will hit Broadway theatres in June next year. Jacobs` co-judges will be director-choreographer Kathleen Marshall, who is at the helm of the entertainment show, and British theatre producer David Ian, a current judge on "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?" The original "Grease" opened on Broadway in 1972, and dealt with teens of the 1950s. It became an icon in the entertainment world after being made into the 1978 film starring John Travolta as gang leader Danny and Olivia Newton-John as Sandy, the naive schoolgirl with whom he falls in love.
The musical spawned a number of hits for the pair, including "You`re The One That I Want" and "Summer Nights", both number one hits in the music and entertainment charts. Craig Plestis, a spokesman for the NBC entertainment network which will broadcast the show, said: "Americans have grown up with these catchy tunes and appealing characters, and we think they`ll love the chance to select the next dynamic duo to play Sandy and Danny".
