They Still Ban Movies Don`t They
What happens to a movie after it wins a few Oscars, gets rave reviews from fans and critics alike and gives a compelling story? Well it gets banned of course! "Brokeback Mountain" is being considered one of the best movies of the century thus far, and yet there is one country that has decided to ban it. In this day and age, when gay rights are accepted almost across the globe, it seems that banning a movie due to its content is not only ridiculous, but incredibly unethical. Gay cowboy movie "Brokeback Mountain" has been banned in the Bahamas, angering gay rights groups.
Its "extreme homosexuality, nudity and profanity" led the Bahamian Plays and Films Control Board to rule the film should not be shown in theatres. The Bahamian film board added: the movie - starring Jake Gyllinghaall and Heath Ledger - has "no value for the Bahamian public". The Rainbow Alliance is pissed off, calling it "a farce", and saying that a small group of people shouldn`t be allowed to "provide the moral compass for the entire country".
The controversial film has also been banned in China, where the Government prevented it from being shown in public by refusing to put it on a list of approved foreign films. A theatre director from the Bahamas, says: "You have a group of people who are telling grown men and women what they can and cannot watch. I cannot understand denying people the right to make their own choices."
