APTA Walks to Help Hurricane Victims
It seems that more and more private organizations, businesses and groups are finding ways to contribute to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort on a daily basis. Recently, another group has joined to help provide funds and assistance to the hurricane victims. October, also known as National Physical Therapy month for the Members of the American Physical Therapy Association, will be bringing a special event this year. The APTA will be sponsoring a nationwide `Walk for Hurricane Katrina Relief` walk-a-thons. `Walk for Hurricane Katrina Relief` aims to have participants reach a collective goal of walking the total number of miles from their city to New Orleans, Biloxi, or another affected city. `We hope to reach across the miles to help those who have endured so much in Katrina`s aftermath,` said APTA President Ben F Massey, Jr., PT, MA. `This October we celebrate our professions by helping people take steps toward gaining their independence.` APTA celebrates National Physical Therapy Month each October. The celebration promotes the physical therapy profession and encourages the public to learn more about physical therapy.
