Pet Smart Charities Helps Agencies in Need
More than a quarter million dollars from customers, associates, and the public has been raised from contributions made to Pet Smart Charities. This national, non-profit organization has decided to help Hurricane Katrina`s relief effort by rescuing animals displaced or injured by the huge storm with pet supplies, transport and funding. Contributions are funding: food, crates, litter, beds, medical supplies, vaccinations and capital repair costs for shelters. Pet Smart Charities also is transporting lost and abandoned dogs and puppies from the affected areas to designated evacuation shelters with its specially designed Rescue Waggin` pet transport vehicle from its Midwest program. The Waggin` has transported 65 dogs in two trips since it was able to enter the disaster areas two days ago. A second Rescue Waggin` vehicle from its California program will join the efforts later this week to help accommodate the growing need. Pet Smart Charities anticipates its grant disbursement will continue to increase each day as requests increase. It is estimated that up to 2 million pets resided in the affected areas. Groups in need of funding are encouraged to call Pet Smart Charities at 1-800-423-PETS for grants. Additionally, the public can make tax-deductible donations to help the pet victims of Hurricane Katrina and other disasters one of three ways: Make a secure credit card donation, make a cash donation at the Charity Dog receptacle inside any U.S. Pet Smart store through Sept. 30, 2005, or mail in a check donation directly to: Pet Smart Charities Attn: Disaster Relief 19601 North 27th Avenue Phoenix, AZ 85027.
