NRI Global Pageant 2005 Winner
A new kind of beauty pageant has joined the many other time-honored events of pageant history. The I-NRI Organization, a non-profict benefit corporation in California, recently held the first International Pageant for Non-Resident Indian women of the Diaspora. Miss & Mrs. NRI Global 2005 Pageant was held at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara, California on October 16th, 2005.
Mehru Nisa Khan was crowned Queen and winner of the Miss NRI Global 2005 pageant as she cleaned house. Malaysian Kanchana Nanda Kumar was placed second and Rimi Gill from the United States was placed third. Mehru Nisa Khan, Queen, was also awarded for Best Personality for giving the best performance in the `Self Expression` category and Best in Elegance. The competition saw contestants from 21 countries around the world competing in three rounds ? fitness, evening wear and personality. Mehru captivated the judges by showing humor and confidence when describing her personality traits and wearing a sophisticated outift, but not overlooking speaking about her traditional values.
The pageant was covered by Tv Asia for 5 days and will be aired on Tv Asia plus other networks around the world. `The most unique aspect of our pageant is that we are a non-commercial entity and therefore the question of exploitation is non existant,` stated Dhillon confidently. She brags about a unique scoring system designed solely for her events that are transparent and instantaneously projected onto large screens for the general audience to view. `We are confident that this event will set the bar for our Asian Indian community and will become the most prestigious global platform for Non-Resident Indian women featuring international talent.` Mehru Khan was also asked in an interview who her favorite singer was and her answer, `Reggie Benjamin, known as the First Indian Pop Artist in America.`
