`Sunshine for a Midnight Weary`
`Sunshine for a Midnight Weary`, the critically acclaimed, november dawn play will debut in New York ? or at least part of it. A choreplay monologue is slated to appear in Next Big THING, This Woman`s Work Theatre Company theatre festival.
`Sunshine for a Midnight Weary` was featured in EMBODI Entertainment`s 2003-04 season. The production garnered Director/Choreographer Angela Matemotja a coveted NAACP Theatre Award nomination. The choreoplay returned for the repertory`s 2004?2005 season and received glowing reviews from the Los Angeles Times and LA Weekly.
`Sunshine for a Midnight Weary` chronicles ten robust characters groping through their past and present grasping for one last attempt at a life in the light. On the way, the audience encounters bitter realities such as: dreams deferred, domestic violence, racism, poverty and suicide. The monologue featured in Next Big THING is a social commentary in which the character, Golden Rod, recounts a spiritual rebirth. The message is perfectly inline with the festival`s theme of birth. Chris Goodrich will direct the festival, which runs January 26-28 at Chashama, 217 East 42nd Street, New York, New York.
