Chocolate Magazine Remembers Aaliyah
Aaliyah, one of the most famous and influential R&B musical artists was honored last Thrusday, August 25, 2005, to commemorate the 4th anniversary of her untimely death by Chocolate Magazine, a UK music magazine. A special, illustrated magazine edition was published dedicated to `Urban Legends` by Chocolate Magazine which also memorialized other well-known artists such as Biggie, Jam Master Jay, ODB, 2Pac, and `Left Eye` Lopes.
Aaliyah died at age 22 in a plane crash in the Bahamas on 25th August 2001, along with the pilot and eight of her friends and crew.
The issue features new articles on Aaliyah as well as the five other legendary hip hop and R&B stars. There will also be new reviews of many of the artist`s key albums added soon. The issue features exclusive illustrations of these remembered stars by UK-based artist Julian Johnson.
As well as the limited edition t-shirts, fans will soon be able to download the illustrations as wallpapers, banners and avatars for personal use. Chocolate Magazine publisher, Rich Quick, said: `We`re delighted with the illustrations. There are hundreds of images of all these artists available so we knew if this issue was going to be worth doing we`d need some really original artwork. Julian`s done a great job of capturing all six stars, so much so that we`ve decided to produce some limited-edition
t-shirts based on his illustrations.`
Editor Danielle Boobyer said, `Aaliyah was such an influential artist, as well as being a special person, so we wanted to do something to help keep her memory alive. So much as been written about her over the years that we knew it would be hard for us to say anything original, but we hope her fans will be able to get something out of the special edition and the illustrations. Maybe we can even help introduce her to a few of our younger readers.`
