California Professional Women`s Association

In its continuing program of seminars and panels dedicated to helping professional women in the Bay Area to improve their career potential while leading balanced, relevant personal lives, the California Professional Women`s Association (CaPWA), a newly formed non-profit organization, will hold its September meeting in San Francisco. This meeting will feature a panel discussion on the subject of the art of networking. It will be held on Tuesday, September 28 at the San Francisco Vision Center of the McKesson Corporation, 1 Post Street, second floor, San Francisco 94104. The meeting starts at 6 PM with networking and refreshments. The panel discussion will get underway at 7:15. There will be a question-and-answer session at the close of the panel presentations. All professionals -- executive, senior, and intern levels -- and students are invited. Online registration is $25. Directions to McKesson`s Vision Center, information about public transportation, and parking are online at http://www.capwa.org/events/events-20040928.html. According to Christine DiLacqua, president and founder of the organization, the San Francisco meeting will address a key issue of importance to the business careers of many professionals -- making the right connections with the right people at the right time. ",We want to enrich the lives of working women -- both personally and professionally -- and we want to suggest a format that can be followed to gain the exposure necessary to move their careers to higher levels,", she said. The panel discussion will be hosted by CaPWA founding Director, Saadia Sabah, Ph.D., founder of Career Matters Coaching (CMC), an agency specializing in leadership, career and change management. CMC clients include Detroit Edison (DTE), the University of Michigan, the Kermanos Institute, and Energy International. She holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Purdue University and a BA in Political Science from Barnard College. Three Bay Area executives will also participate on the panel: Nancy Bergman, Executive Vice President of StanleyBarber, a career management and development company, and a member of the Family Advisory Board for Alliance for Community Care, an overseer of mental health systems in Santa Clara County. Derinda Gaumond, founder of Worklt.com, the Bay Area`s most comprehensive calendar of start-up events and a valuable source of networking opportunities for more than 8000 subscribers. She also teaches a networking Skills Clinic at San Jose State University. Marney Margules, co-founder of CaPWA and the organization`s Vice President for the North Bay. She has over 9 years experience in sales, recruiting, marketing, and business development, and is the lead account manager of NSP, Inc. a consulting and staffing firm in the North Bay. The California Professional Women`s Association was founded in January 2004 in San Jose, CA to provide women with education on technologies, labor trends and other issues, and to assist in professional revitalization and career development. CaPWA will also provide opportunities for coaching and mentoring and encourages social responsibility through organizing volunteer projects with other local non-profit organizations.
