Alexander Finally Caught by FBI
Former Chief executive of Comverse Technology, Kobi Alexander, was caught by the FBI in his hideout in Namibia, thus ending a seven week worldwide manhunt. Alexander disappeared last summer after being accused of arranging a secret slush fund of stock options by directing grants to "phantom" employees in a special account set up for the purpose. He will be extradited to the US where he will stand trial.
The arrest was announced in a joint press release by Roslynn Mauskopf, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York, and Mark Mershon, the assistant director in charge of the FBI in New York. "Alexander`s apprehension shows that the FBI will work internationally to bring perpetrators of corporate fraud to justice," Mershon said
Alexander will join two of his associates, former Comverse Chief Financial Officer David Kreinberg and former General Counsel William Sorin, who faced federal charges on wire and mail fraud in the backdating scandal.
