Big Business Not Limited to Republicans
That Republicans are believed to be beholden to the interests of ?big business? is hardly a secret. But what Democrats don?t necessarily like to bring attention to themselves for is their own weakness to become as susceptible to the wiles of big business as the ostensibly small-government conservatives of the Grand Old Party. Why is it that the Democrats are given all but a free pass to try and hide their business connections while, at the same time, the Democrats attack the Republicans for their business connections?
Some of the biggest Democratic or left-wing activists have a lot of money behind them because they run businesses. At first thought, George Soros comes to mind. Soros has been outspoken in his denunciations of the Bush Administration and an American foreign policy in the Middle East more conciliatory to America?s foes than American friends such as Israel. Democrats don?t always advertise their business connections, but sometimes these connections are inescapable from the public eye.
Take the situation of Ned Lamont in Connecticut. A millionaire businessman, Lamont beat out veteran Democratic senator Joe Lieberman for the Democratic nomination in this year?s Senate race. A Democrat with lots of money beating out a former Vice Presidential contender might seem ordinary, but it just goes to show that the Republicans aren?t the only ones who are often able to finance their own campaigns.
