Retailers Step Up into Holiday Mode by Slashing Prices
Retailers across the United States are already getting into festive gear as the holiday season draws nearer. Consumer researchers say that the average American starts to think about Christmas purchases in October already, and major retailers are taking advantage of this fact by announcing dramatic price slashes on holiday items, effective immediately. Wal-Mart Stores declared last week that they were cutting the price of over 100 popular toys, and would continue to slash prices off other holiday gifts such as clothing and cosmetics as the weeks before Christmas progressed.
While Toys R Us advertised their Hot Wheels radar gun for $29.99, for example, Wal-Mart declared that it was dropping its price to $20. This is just one tiny example of the hundreds of items waiting to be reduced in price by major retailers across the nation. Last year, Wal-Mart waited until November 1st to begin its pre-Christmas sales and industry analysts say that the company kept its prices too high for too long.
As a result, the retailing company had a disappointing season. This year, companies intend reducing some of their prices by 30% in a bid to lure the early birds to part with their cash before the rest of the nation joins in with last-minute frantic Christmas shopping. Many people are tempted to get their holiday purchases out the way before the stores are too full of other buyers and price reductions this early in the year will be a major encouragement factor.
